Memories of my mom…..

Before I say anything, I want to say that my children have been blessed with a mother that loves them and watches out for them in a way that I (as a man) will never understand.  Thank you God for Linda…..
Although I love being with my wife on Mother’s Day, I do not really enjoy Mother’s Day anymore.
It was about 8 and a half years ago my mother died. Many will tell you that she was one of the sweetest people they had ever met.  She loved her Savior,  she loved her family, she was a wonderful wife, and she was a great example of what the Christian life should be….(read Proverbs 31).

I remember one weekend when I was still in high school that my mom & dad had gone to my aunt’s house.  They got home on Sunday night and I remember asking my mom to come into her room so that I could talk to her.  I had never really missed my mom as much as I did that weekend; it was just two days, but God gave me a special appreciation that weekend for my mother….maybe it had something to do with the fact that I had burned our dinner.  Nah!  My mom and I prayed together that night and I thanked God for the mother he gave me.

That was 25 years ago, but I remember it well.  My mother prayed for me.  She prayed that I would turn out right (still remains to be seen), prayed that I would have a great marriage (I have the best), prayed that I would be blessed with children (have the 3 best kids a dad could hope for), and that I would always strive to follow after the will of God in my life (still trying).

Thank God for MOMS.

Since today is the National Day of Prayer, I wanted to give you several websites that give you ideas on how to pray for your kids…..thanks for praying for me, mom!

I don’t always think of my mom in a positive way and I really should praise her for having me. It was a hard choice for her during that part of her life, with a divorce soon to follow. She gave up a daughter prior to that marriage and when she had me, years later, it was joy that she couldn’t describe that brought her peace unimaginable. I love her and want to thank her and give her praises for all God has done through her and between us. I know you miss your mom and I am reminded that while mine is still here, I need to show her how much I truly love her. Thanks

    John,
I agree with you that your Mom was one of the sweetest people I ever knew. I was in your home daily for a few years (it being attached to A1 Flowers). I watched as you woke up and came into the shop in your jammies and hair that looked like you slept with an eggbeater. Chris was always able to drop what she was doing and tend to your needs. Nothing was more important than the family. She was so organized and could keep a flower shop and a family co-ordinated so well that everything ran smoothly together. I am still amazed when I look back on her quiet way of keeping everything calm.

Your mom was a faithful woman and loved God.
Proverbs 31 is a perfect example of Chris Shelton.
You were truly blessed to have her for your Mom.

    John,
Just want you to know that we also think your Mom was the greatest. Your parents were very, very special to us.
    Love ya,
    Sherran and Joe

A good word, John. To quote Billy Bob Thornton in “Primary Colors” –
“Ain’t nobody gonna love us like Momma…”

My mom’s love for me is the closest thing to agape I’ve found this side of the Jordan.

    Keep writing. You’re good.

    Dude,

You know how I felt about your mom. The phrase “like a second mom” never rang more true than with your mom. The late nights of dominoes or Sunday lunch. She was one special lady.
